REARWARD MOVEMENT

Being able to shift your hips in motion is critical when it comes to moving to the rear with agility, maintaining balance, and having the ability to change direction and/or exploit angles.

This is why I preach the importance of training more than backpedaling for rearward movement. Being able to shift the hips away, while keeping the head and gun on target, is a trained skill that requires reps.

I like working reactive movement in this series:

1. Draw-strokes in motion
2. Hips to threat (backpedaling)
3. Hips away from threat
4. Transition between hips to and hips away
5. Turn & Burn

These skills are best developed in dry-fire and repped with an inert gun or NLTA against a role-player, and then validated in live-fire.
